First Smiles....

You always see babies smile and think that they're absolutely adorable, but never quite experience the feeling that you get as a parent seeing your own child smile at you...especially the first smile that you realize isn't just the result of gas. I never realized how a 6 week old child could just make your heart melt.

One Month Old!

Wow how time flies! When people tried to warn me of the fact that time would seem to speed up, they were not joking in any way, form, or fashion. Zoe is now one month old and doing very well. She has started to make a few baby "milestones" like cooing, holding your gaze, focusing, swatting at toys in front of her, and holding her head up and steady. I'm so ready for her to interact more so I can actually play with her some. I feel kind of foolish playing with her now and getting no response even though I know she enjoys the interaction. She is still one of the most content babies I've ever seen and when she's dissatisfied for whatever reason, she'll let you know right away. As soon as she's tended to in the way that she needed whether it be a change, feeding, or cuddled, she'll settle right down. And yes, we are actually sleeping well (and for fairly long stretches). We were blessed with an easy and wonderful baby.

Two Week Checkup

Wow...Zoe has fattened up! Our two week check-up was today, and according to our doctor, she's doing very well. She now is 20.5 inches long (she shrank over an inch once her cone head swelling went down...and weighs 8lbs 12oz. She's gained just over a pound over the course of the last week and she's finally starting to fit into the newborn diapers we've been putting her in. This is a good thing just in case your wondering since I'm the one who's been pooped on during diaper changes 8 times in the last week. Daddy's not had that experience yet....but I know that she's saving a really good one for him sometime soon. Snap, crackle, pop. :)

"Mommy Crisis"

I'm figuring that if a man is allowed to have a midlife crisis, a woman is entitled to what I like to call a "mommy crisis". See, when I got home with Zoe, I had this overwhelming urge to change my look. Part of this was being done naturally by the diet I went on last week where I lost 23 pounds. It's called the "have a baby" diet. But since I was getting my pre-pregnancy looks back, I decided that I wanted to go even further with my change. This is where the "mommy crisis" comes in. I went into my hair stylist and told her, "Chop it off!" Now it's not as drastic as it sounds. I didn't go GI Jane short, but I did get quite a bit cut off. It's a much more stylish version than my plain jane cut, and probably my favorite hairstyle of any that I've ever had. At the very least, it makes me feel somewhat like a new person, and as a new mom, change is what I needed.

First Night at Home

Day 2: Our "content" baby has done a 180. Being in a new environment has proven quite difficult in the world of our new baby. We got little sleep last night...I think I was lucky to have gotten the two hours that I did. Apparently the first meal didn't suit her as well as I would have liked, and she definitely let us know! As long as adreneline keeps pumping, I'll be as wide-eyed as Zoe. Now to await the day when it doesn't.

First Week Comes to a Close...

Our "content" baby is back and sleep has once again fallen over the Buscher household. We've only been home for three days, but I can't seem to remember life without her. She's been a wonderful addition to our small family, and I'm excited at what the future holds. I'm sure the days of just Darin and myself will soon become a distant (but wonderful) memory.
