Gymnastics Exhibition

Our little lady has been in preschool gymnastics since mid-February.  We got a free week coupon in her bag from school and tried it out one week.  Come to find out, she loved it.  So we decided to let her try it for a while.  She is now a little over two months into it and wants everyday to be "gymnastics day".  They have a class for 3-4 year olds that meets once a week for 45 minutes.  They have two teachers who split the class fo about 10 up into two groups.  The teacher who is with them in these pictures was a new one...she wasn't Zoe's normal teacher.  So she did things a little more carefully since she didn't know what each kids' abilities were (as you'll see in the video of her walking on the balance beam).

Zoe has picked up on most things they do pretty easily.  She's certainly not the best out there, but she seems to have somewhat of a natural ability.  They rotate each week and choose two things from the following; balance beam, trampoline jumps, uneven bars, obstacle couse, rings, and a few other little things here and there.  They stress four different types of jumps and work on those four with each event that they do.  Zoe is ok at all of them, but she has those that she is better in than she is in others.  She is probably the strongest in the uneven bars (which is just holding on and doing one type of move with their legs) and the balance beam.  The lowest balance beam she is able to go all the way down with no one holding her hand or touching her back.  The higher ones she gets a little nervous on and usually holds someone's hand on.  The teacher in this video held her hand on the lower one.  Normally with her usual teachers, they let her go across unassisted.

I'm not sure if this is something she'll continue over the next several years or not.  I don't see her stopping anytime soon.  She also wants to play softball next year, so we are already at the point of having to choose.  Luckily, it is a month by month commitment, so if she takes a month or two off for softball, she can jump right back in when she is finished.
