Just in case you were wondering, now that we have the shower installed, we put our house up on the market. We're hoping having a shower will make all the difference.
So this move isn't a house move quite yet. Nope. This move is a move from babyhood to "big boyhood". A few weeks ago, Ethan had his fifty gazillianth ear infection and had some issues sleeping. Right around the same time, he started to show signs that his canine teeth were moving down, one is bulging out and you can see white under the gumline. So the combination of those two are never a good thing. They always reek havoc on his sleep schedule. In this case, it caused him to cry for an hour at minimum at night, then that would cause him to wake up sometime around 6, which would then cause him to take a morning nap, which would then cause his afternoon nap to be thrown off. Do you see the vicious cycle? So then throw a trip to Dallas in there for a frenzy-like weekend where he was stuck in a pack'n'play. The boy, we've discovered likes his space. For weeks, part of the reason we would hear him wake up, we think was the fact that he was running out of room in his little crib. Really he wasn't running out of room, but he likes to stick his feet out the slats and would get them stuck. Then he would be determined to sleep sideways in his crib, and well, there's just not enough room for that.
We'd been contemplating the best time to move him to a toddler bed, but held off because we assumed we'd have a hard time with keeping him in the bed. We had preferred to wait until after we moved, or at least after he turned two. But he decided for us, and his decision was NOW!
This clued me in too. He refused to take a nap in his crib. Cried for 2 hours on and off. I brought him out, ran to do something, and when I came back less than 2 minutes later, this is what I found. Stayed like that for an hour...it was so late in the afternoon I woke him up.
So yesterday was the big day. I dragged our toddler bed out of storage and arranged his room so that he could have both the crib and the bed in the room. Naptime was our big test. Not so good. He stayed in it...that wasn't the problem. Never once got out. The problem, again, was the space. He wanted to turn sideways, and there just wasn't room to do that.
So I got this all ready and we didn't even use it. Bye bye toddler bed. :(
But today at nap was a success. He slept his usual hour and a half or more and is now in a happy mood again. Bliss...at least for a few hours until we try again.
But it makes him happy!
If this picture doesn't spell H.A.P.P.Y., I don't know what would.
So long babyhood!
